Position Summary: Assists one or more teachers with one-on-one or small group tutoring and/or in the direct care, supervision, and support of the children in a classroom setting. Maintains and prepares classroom materials, attendance records, health forms, and student files. Provides instructional assistance that reinforces learning to individuals or small groups of students.

Employee Type: Full Time and Part Time
Salary: $17.78-$20.04 per hour depending on assignment
Substitutes are ‘on-call’ employees serving on a day-to-day basis. Be advised that absences are unpredictable; therefore assignment offers are not guaranteed.
Paraeducator I- Kindergarten/Locker Room
Assists one or more teachers with one-on-one or small group tutoring and/or in the direct care, supervision, and support of the children in a classroom setting. Maintains and prepares classroom materials, attendance records, health forms, and student files. Provides instructional assistance that reinforces learning to individuals or small groups of students.
Paraeducator II- Mild/Moderate
Provides instructional, group and individual behavior, and clerical support to teachers in special education classroom settings, assisting individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning. Assists teachers with instruction and classroom management that occurs in special education and general education classrooms and play field environs.
Paraeducator III- Moderate/Severe (Requires CPR/First Aid & Strength Testing)*
Performs specialized instructional support to individuals and groups of Special Education or Severely Handicapped students. This position applies to those who have been trained and who are integrating significant para-professional health care services or behavior interventions with instructional support.
Paraeducator Independence Facilitator- Assists individuals or small groups of students (Typically CPR/First Aid & Strength Testing)
Provides individual behavior intervention and medical support to students in a classroom settings, assists individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning. Assists teachers with instruction and classroom management that occurs in special education and general education classrooms, lunchroom and play field environs.
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists certificated teacher(s) in the instruction of students placed in regular programs; monitor and report student progress in areas of behavior and performance; perform clerical and instructional support duties.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent and must meet NCLB requirements (48 college semester units from an accredited college or university; or successful completion of the District Instructional Paraeducator Proficiency Exam).
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required
- May require a valid CA Driver license.
- Approved competency examination.
- May require a valid First Aid/CPR card.
All of the following documents are required for this position:
- Copy of Transcript (48 college semester units OR Instructional Paraeducator Proficiency Test Certificate)
- Proof of HS Graduation (High School Diploma, High School Transcripts or Equivalent (ex. GED))
- Resume (Provide clear evidence of required experience)
*The following are additional requirements to substitute for Substitute Paraeducator III:
- Pass Employee Entrance Evaluation (Strength Test)
- CPR and First Aid Certification
