Position Summary:
Under direction of the Chief of Police and/or his/her designee, is responsible for the following: assist with management oversight and supervision of middle management (Sergeants) and other department personnel; provide a variety of administrative duties associated with police administration specific responsibility for patrol operations, internal affairs investigations, grant writing, department training, police records, communications technology, reserve forces, program management, serving as a liaison to other District departments, using independent judgment and discretion and performing other related duties as assigned or required.

Salary: $132,807 - $164,789 in 7 annual steps. Salary placement based on experience.
Stipends: Master's Degree $2,000 yr, Doctoral additional $1,200 yr

Experience/Education:
Associate Arts Degree or equivalent in General Education or Criminal Justice from an accredited college, university or school with specialization in Police Science or Criminal Justice is required. Baccalaureate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field is highly desirable. Five (5) years of experience with a California law enforcement agency, with an emphasis on first line supervision specifically with 1 or more years as a Sergeant. Any combination of 1 year of full time municipal law enforcement experience will be credited towards 2 years of specialized law enforcement experience. Must have the ability to obtain a POST Management Certificate within two years of appointment to Lieutenant. Experience would include responsibility in patrol, investigations, administration, personnel evaluations, training, and technology. Experience within an educational law enforcement setting is desirable.
Licenses and other Requirements:
A valid Class C – California Driver’s License, a good driving record and proof of insurance are required. Must be a citizen of the United States and be twenty-one (21) years of age by filing date; graduate of POST Training and possession of an Intermediate and/or eligible for an Advanced and/or Supervisory POST Certificates within one year of appointment, and eligible for POST Management certification, if not already certified; within 2 years of appointment. Possess no felony convictions as specified under California Government code ş1029.
